Off To Comic Con!

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 11, 2012, 9:34 AM
But not in a fun way. I'll be working . This show is brutal, standing around for 11 or 12 hours a day, trying to maintain enthusiasm and excitement for each and everyone I talk to over the course of the next 5 days. Im very friendly, but after about 9 hours...even smiling starts to hurt. Sure, there are worse things to do for work by far, but imagine being in the center of one of the most exciting trade shows and not being able to go anywhere!  If I was going there as an artist, that's different, I'd love to meet fellow artists, possible fans and maybe even sell some prints...maybe someday.

If you are going to be there, stop by the Playstation booth and say hello!

We Have A Winner...and another contest!

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 28, 2012, 2:53 PM
Congratulations to CanadianSpartan, who was the first to guess all 10 DC Heroines correctly! For this feat he wins a single character commission of his choosing. Thanks to everyone who entered!

Although we can only have one winner for this contest, I will be announcing another contest with multiple winners...check my DC Heroines picture for details.

As always, thanks to everyone who visits my page! Be sure to let me know what you think of the new picture in the comments section.

CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 27, 2012, 9:00 PM
Hello there! As previously announced, I reached 20k pageviews! Small by most standards, but a milestone for me. Thanks for stopping by! To thank the ones who are "Watching" me and are fans of my art, I'm holding a new contest, to win a free single character commission! Here are the details:

I am about to post some silhouettes of the 10 ladies that comprise my Heroines of DC picture. The first one to guess all 10 correctly will win a single character drawing by yours truly!

Here are the rules:

1. You must correctly guess ALL 10 ladies. You can post your answers either in the comments area under the picture (of course, everyone will be able to see your answers, so a note will probably be best if your first guess is wrong), or you can send me a private note. I will use the timestamp embedded in either the note or the comment to verify who got it to me the fastest!

2. You must be "Watching" me prior to entering the contest. You can simply "Watch" me right before entering, but if you happen to be the first to answer correctly, but you aren't part of the list of my "Watchers" list, you won't qualify to win.

Get Ready....Set....GO!

20k Page Views!

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 13, 2012, 6:17 PM
Sure, it's definitely not a lot by Deviant Art standards, but its a milestone for me. To have my page visited 20,000 times is a real honor. Thanks to all of you who have visited over the years! My Ladies of DC picture will be my special gift to those who enjoy my art. Unfortunately, I reached the 20,000 Milestone before I could finish it. Although I have enough characters to release it as is now, I'd rather put more into it so that it is something that feels special.

Good news for those of you who would like a character sketch for the low, low price of...free! I will be having a contest on my Ladies of DC picture where the winner will get a free colored sketch of a single character of their choosing. Of course, they'll have to wait until I'm first done with my last contest winner's picture, Aldessa.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS STOPPED BY MY PAGE AND CHECKED OUT MY ART! Special thanks to everyone who's taken the time to comment and encourage me to continue.

Almost Done! What's Next...

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 24, 2012, 8:01 PM
Aldessa's contest piece has been challenging, but I'm getting closer to completing it. My job has been keeping me busy, so its been tough to work on it in my spare time, but hopefully, Aldessa will like it! Aldessa, I even went back before starting on your picture to improve some art skills specifically so that I could do your idea justice.

Also, at long last, I am also nearly done on a piece that I have been working on for quite a while. I hope to have it finished by the time I reach 20,000 page views. I think fans of group shots, dc comics and women may like the piece. =) I know that 20k page views isn't much when compared to what so many others have achieved, but that's okay, I'm grateful for everyone who's taken time to visit my deviant art page. Maybe I should give a sneak peak?

I will be having a contest centered around my 20k page piece, so stay tuned for that. This contest will (hopefully) be fun as it will be a race of sorts. More to come later.  I think this time, I'll limit the number of characters I'll commit to drawing for the winner though so there's not such a huge gap between contests...hehe.

Here's a chance to give your input on what you'd like to see more of, I'm about to create my first poll. Depending on it's success (or abysmal failure) I may do more of them. So if you want to have a direct impact on what I draw, make sure to participate!

As always, thanks for checking out my page!

Parade of the Pencils!!!

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 16, 2011, 9:14 AM
Well, as you can see, I finally finished my PlayStation Icons picture...that took a crazy amount of time. But as I know, there are WAY, WAY, WAY more talented colorists out there than what I can produce, so over the next day or so, I'll be uploading the pencils of several of the main characters of the finished pieces. If you are a colorist who'd like to take a stab at it, I'd love to see it!  Make sure to send me a link to the finished piece!

Uneventful Year =(

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 17, 2011, 7:23 AM
Well, this year has been a bust in terms of events. Due to various circumstances and schedule conflicts, I haven't been able to attend Wonder Con, E3 or the SDCC. Pretty weak sauce. So, as I lament my 0 trade show fate, I began to look back at some of my old photos from last year...ones I never got around to posting and thought, why not? So without further ado...

Going Full Family Friendly...

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 15, 2010, 10:14 AM
Hello everyone, this is just a heads up to anyone who may have favorited some of my more 'risque' pin-up pieces. In an effort to make sure that my gallery can be viewed by all ages, including my young nieces and nephews, I will be altering or removing entirely some of my pieces. I hope to do this on Monday of next week.

As a result, I encourage you to save a copy of anything you'd like to keep asap by clicking the download button on any of my pieces and saving them locally. Some of the pieces that will be edited or removed entirely are: Girls x3 the sequel, Powergirl, Mary Marvel Rushed, Knockout, Pimp Pete's Guarantee, Mystique the perfect GF, Shadow Lass Colored Horribly, GirlsGirlsGirls, Thug Approved and Lingy. This will only alter my gallery contents, not my commission work.

I will still be drawing the female form, most notably super heroes, but they will be in such a way so as to put them on par with their male counterparts in terms of posing and composition with the focus being on making them being dynamic as opposed to simply titillating.

Thanks!

Never Again!

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 21, 2010, 7:28 PM
Well, work has kept me insanely busy, but what else is new? I've been doodling when I can, but haven't produced anything aside from a few sketches. But the title of my post has to do with the fact that I can't ever let my sketches build up like that before scanning them in. Its way too much work scanning in like 15-20 pages, cropping and then consolidating them into just a few pieces. I'll start uploading them momentarily. Normally I wouldn't post so many sketches (as opposed to larger pics) but I don't have anything else finished. I hope to rectify that soon...I have pics of Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Mary Marvel and even Optimus Prime that are all 90% done, but not yet finished. Its like the planets have to align before I have a) time to draw and b) am in the mood to as well.

Thanks to all of you who've favorited my older stuff. I can't believe that the Ladies of Marvel pic has been favorited over 900 times?! That's insane! For me anyway. If it reaches 1,000 I'll have to draw something special as a thank you to everyone. Maybe let people vote on it? Eh, but that's even assuming it even gets to 1,000. Shoot, if it does reach a 1,000, I'll give the 1,000 person a free 8 1/2 x 11 sketch of a character.

Anyway, on with the sketches!

Off to Comic Con!

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 21, 2010, 7:02 AM
Working at Comic Con this year! This is my first time both working and attending. It sucks that I'll miss all of the cool panels that will be there, but hopefully I'll at least be able to buy some stuff during my lunch break. I'm sure I'll come back inspired to draw!

Off to E3!

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 14, 2010, 5:53 AM
Well, I'm heading to E3 2010 in LA! It's going to be a blast. Every year, I not only see the hottest games that are on the way, but I get to see fantastic promo artwork from various publishers and game studios. I always get inspired and come back fired up to draw! Since I don't have to work this year, I'll be free to roam the hallways taking it all in. I'm planning on taking some pencils and paper with me so that I can sketch in my downtime at the hotel, if I can contain my excitement for the event long enough to do so.

LA, here I come!

What. The. ?!?!?!

Journal Entry: Sun May 2, 2010, 6:37 PM
Ooookaay. So I posted a picture of the Ladies of Marvel that I colored with tonal markers early in the AM (couldn't sleep). When I woke up later, I was AMAZED to find that it had become my most "favorited" picture ever...in like 5 hours? I couldn't believe that over 100 people had placed it in their favorites...I was humbled and absolutely BLOWN AWAY.

Then I went off on my errands for the day, and I came back to find that over 490 people have placed this in their favorites, with over 5,200 views? This is insane! I have no idea what's going on, but I'm utterly grateful that so many of you have taken the time to check out my picture and other pieces in my gallery.

Thanks SO much! I don't know what else to say. I'm sure this is a random fluke, but regardless, thanks to everyone for checking it out and for so many of you placing it in your favorites.

I have quite a few pieces in the works, but I guess I really have to focus on following up that picture with my girls of DC piece. Thanks to the groups: "Comic Pin Up Artists", "Boobs-2-Squeeze", "Comic Vixens", and "Real Art United" for allowing me to post my measly art with so many great pieces and special thanks to Armando Huerta and Stacytron who's huge followings have directed people my way (both of whom I absolutely ADORE their art).

It's on like Donkey Kong!

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 26, 2010, 4:38 AM
Got a new PC. This thing is KILLER! I bought Crisis to test out the graphics card, and it performs admirably. But of course, the real reason why I wanted this PC is because of what it can do for Photoshop and Painter! Geez, this thing runs those two programs like they owe it money! Photoshop filters are applied instantly, Painter 11's brush actually works like it should. Get ready for the art, as this should really speed up my production when it comes to finishing pieces. To go along with it, I picked up a 27" HD Monitor and WOW! Not only do I have more real estate in the programs mentioned above, but all of the art on this site that I love to check out is that much clearer and beautiful to behold.

I want to thank all of my old and recent new watchers, I appreciate you taking the time to check out my art! Please suggest away any ideas for pieces you have. Of course, I can't do everything, but its nice to have a back stock of good ideas to try when I'm not working on commission work!

I've been gone a LONG time. Work's been an absolute beast (but a "good" type of busy) but it looks as though that soon my head will be above water. Before I start drawing after an extended hiatus, I usually open up one of my most recent pictures and see what I can do to fix it. The Kratos and Wonder Woman vs. Olympus picture was the latest to receive that treatment.
Funny how you can think something's okay when you first complete it, but when you go back later, it can seem hideous. When I popped out the original of the Kratos/WW pic, I just shook my head in disgust over the proportions of Wonder Woman and the faces of both her and Kratos. Hopefully most will agree that I changed it for the better. But only time will tell...

My computer seems to be systematically shutting down, with both Photoshop and even Painter not operating (Photoshop won't even open). All because of an Adobe install from their website. Tip, don't ever try to uninstall a Photoshop trial...it can mess up your system...BAD. You have no idea what I had to do just to scan in the Kratos pic and get it on this site.

Anyway, long story short, my apologies to those who are awaiting commissions from me. I promise that I will be catching up on those asap (although those that require digital colors will have to wait until I purchase my new PC).

Well, I've been looking at a lot of great art on the site and I've been taking notice of some of the more popular categories among comic/manga art viewers. I'm not comfortable drawing some of the more extreme categories (that fall into the fetish arena), but I guess I can try my hand at some of the more tamer ones. If anyone has any suggestions of what type of pics seem to be the most popular on deviant art, let me know and I may try my take on one in that style. In the meantime, I know that every now and then you have to go "cheesecake" and draw some pin-ups of the ladies, so I've already finished a couple of pics and I'm just starting to ink and color them. As always, thanks for stopping by and checking out my art!

Well, I'm about to start posting the sketches and pics I've done since attending the comic con. I started using the tonal markers I bought seemingly forever ago on some basic sketches. I've also used the only color I bought (red) to highlight some of the sketches. I've been having fun messing around with the new art tools. But the most drastic change is that I took the great Art Adams advice and picked up some copic pens and have started inking my sketches. Its made a pretty drastic difference. For any aspiring comic artists out there, if you feel more comfortable with pens, pick up some copic markers! I've always had people tell me that I'd have to learn to use a brush, but Art Adams showed me the light!

Now if only I could get comfortable with coloring pics...oh well, one step at a time, eh?

Well, I'm here in San Francisco with some friends attending Wondercon 2009. I have been totally blown away by some of the artists here. It makes a HUGE difference when you see the original artwork as opposed to a scan or even in a sketchbook. I had a chance to speak with some of my favorite artists like Jim Lee, J. Scott Campbell, Greg Horn and Art Adams, who I have a newfound appreciation for. I mean, Art's attention to detail in his pics is absolutely unbelievable! What doesn't come through (IMO) when you see his stuff in smaller print is the animation quality of it. Fantastic. He's also shown me that you CAN ink pics with great success with pens.

Anyway, the big thing I am taking away from this years show is that I need to start taking my time with my pics. I'm pretty impatient and I usually don't like to take longer than a couple of hours or so on a sketch or a couple of days (3-4 hours a day) on a more complicated picture, such as the Ladies of Marvel pic I recently completed. I'm going to do my best to make sure that those days are over. All of the artists I mentioned above quoted taking 5,6, 7 or more days on a piece...and that's drawing ALL day according to them, 8-16 hours a day! So I guess good things do come to those who wait. If you have a sec, drop me a line once I put my first few pieces over the next few weeks and let me know if you see a difference in my work. Also, feel free to suggest any characters you'd like to see my take on. The plan is to possibly get a table at a local convention in the future and see how that goes, but I'll need a portfolio with popular characters to get started, so suggest away!
